Art Linkletter passed away today. He was 97.
Linkletter was asked by Walt Disney to be the primary host for the televised live-opening broadcast of Disneyland on July 17, 1955.
I emailed Walt's daughter, Diane Disney Miller, asking for her thoughts. She forwarded the following release to me:
"I just heard the news and came to my computer to address it. Art and Lois Linkletter were two of my parents very dearest friends. My sister and I had the opportunity to know them and their family through this friendship, and it was precious to us. As I consider my father's life to be an inspirational story, Art's life was certainly one, too. They were much alike in that they made a career out of bringing joy and laughter to the world .. love, even. Art and Lois knew the pain of tragic personal loss, but his wit, wisdom, kindness, and energy survived and continued to cheer and inspire others. He was, as others are saying, a wonderful man."
Art Linkletter is survived by two of his five children and his wife of over 74 years, Lois.
